33 Most Deserving New Scholars Chosen After Month-Long Interview Series by DSAFI

After more than a month of interviews and screenings, the Dominican Scholarship Assistance Fund, Inc. (DSAFI) has concluded its search for this year’s new scholars. From May 4 to June 14, 2025, the organization visited various barangays across Santo Domingo, Albay, to personally interview applicants and ensure equal opportunity for all.

DSAFI Holds Welcome and Send-Off Party for Scholars

By: Ronalyn Balana

The Dominican Scholarship Assistance Fund Inc. (DSAFI) hosted a combined welcome and send-off celebration for its scholars on August 3, 2024, at Punta de Diego in Salvacion, Sto. Domingo, Albay. The event marked an opportunity to welcome new scholars into the program and honor graduating members as they prepare for their next steps.

The day began with scholars gathering at the DSAFI office, where they enjoyed a lively atmosphere filled with stories and laughter while waiting for the whole group to assemble. Upon arriving at Punta de Diego Resort, the scholars registered for the event and participated in an election to select the new student board members of DSAFI.

The formal program commenced with a speech from DSAFI President Christian Calleja, who highlighted the organization’s mission and encouraged the scholars. This was followed by a message from DSAFI Founder Mr. Curry, who addressed the group virtually from Chicago. New and graduating scholars then took the stage to share their experiences and express their hopes for the future.

Before moving to the more informal part of the event, the board of trustees gathered for a group photo with all the scholars, capturing a moment of unity and celebration. The program’s second half saw an exciting game called “Hayop Hanapan,” in which all scholars participated enthusiastically. Attendees dressed in white and pastel colors contributed to the event’s vibrant atmosphere.

The event also featured a variety of programs, including food, music, additional games, and a chant-making activity aimed at fostering camaraderie among the scholars. The DSAFI welcome and send-off party provided a meaningful opportunity for scholars to build connections and friendships. The event celebrated the achievements of both new and outgoing members, reinforcing DSAFI’s commitment to supporting scholars in their academic and personal journeys.
